NPC TEAM MEMBER PROFILES
Feb. 11th, 2019 08:40 pmThe main Aegis Force consists of up to fifteen imPorts, but who keeps their base in Maurtia Falls running while they're off fighting crime on the Moon? These six native characters serve as staff at HQ, and are available to add flavour and context to Aegis team threads. The recruitment of these characters also reflects Aegis' mission to build cooperation between imPort and native for the shared goal of protecting the innocent. To that end, Aegis has recruited the best volunteers that can be found among the Porter cities from humanitarian, law enforcement, or metahuman backgrounds to be part of the unit.
ADMIN: basically the God of the Base, who keeps everything running behind the scenes with regards to appointments, payroll, scheduling, and more. Works at the front desk in the lobby.
NAME: Vivian "Viv" Constantino
AGE: 35
BACKGROUND: Viv grew up in Little Italy side of New York City, before her parents moved to the upcoming and bustling city of Maurtia Falls because her father's new job assignment. She is the eldest of three with two little brothers, Mario and Dean. She always had a way with numbers and organization, to the point that her father had her doing his taxes for him by the time she was fifteen and she had two extra cabinets built into the walls of her room just to maintain her organization methodology. There is a place for everything and everything should be in its place. Sometimes she would refuse to come out of her room if her brothers had been home or had friends over, because of the mess they would leave in the open family areas of the home. It drove her crazy.
She got a scholarship to Cornell University, but still took on an extra job so she could pay the extra money to have her own room. She had wanted to move out into her own apartment, but the cost of an apartment on her own without a roommate was too much, so instead she made sure she got a solo room every semester. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. Went on the get a masters in Business Administration and Human Resources. She has worked for different small companies to expand their business and has a very high success rate for improving profits, record-keeping, and employee satisfaction in the workplace. She knows how to read people, put numbers to it, and see how to work the two together in improving company production and employee salaries at the same time.
When she was 30 years old, she was visiting her brother Mario when there was a major hurricane and his home was flooded before they could evacuate. If it wasn't for the imPorts stepping in to help with the disaster a lot of people would have died. This really boosted her opinion of imPorts, and despite living in Maurtia Falls, where they don't have the best of reputations, nothing has changed her opinion of imPorts since. When she heard of the founding of Aegis Force, she wanted the job, as not only would it be a chance to do something a little different from what she's used to, but because she wants to help make things as efficient and successful for the imPorts who are trying to do the right thing.
Currently she's single after breaking up with her girlfriend of three years back in September 2018. She is a very proud auntie and has pictures of her nieces and nephew on a digital photo album she has set up on her desk that rotates photos exactly every 45 seconds.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Lina Sastri
EXTRA DETAILS: Viv is a neat freak, control freak, and hates any mess within her area. If you bring a mess, you will clean it up, and you'll be on her bad side for a while to come if you're not reasonably apologetic. She's pleasant and cordial and never raises her voice to someone, even when she's chastising them, as she doesn't believe that harsh words or loud voices help with communication situations. Still, she does tend to think she's right (and usually she is) and wants people to stop arguing and go along with her "suggestions" to make things more efficient. But she does have two major weaknesses and if you know about them and cater to them, she's likely to go easy on you and give you what you want. For one, she loves horror novels. She can read them by the shelf-full. If you talk horror fiction to her, or even bring her horror novels as gifts, you're likely to get your way. Her other weakness is chocolate-covered coffee beans. She keeps a secret stash in one drawer of her desk specific just for them so they won't contaminate anything else.
INTEL/LIAISON: The person who talks to the government, local emergency services, and other sources offscreen to keep Aegis fully briefed and informed on information relevant to their tasks while maintaining relations with their allies. This person is also ICly in charge of creating the monthly Press Releases for the Majority Report. Works in the Command Centre.
NAME: Teresa "The Iceberg" Bergess
AGE: 45
BACKGROUND: Teresa is the third daughter (of five) of a school nurse and an electrician/satellite television installer from Texas. Her father wasn't around much when she was little because of his job taking him around over half the state as needed, but when he was present he absolutely doted on his daughters. She learned a lot from her father growing up, but it was her mother who insisted that they get the best educations they could, that their girls would have the brains and opportunities to go as far as they could in life, and her parents spent a great deal of money to send their girls to one of the best private schools in the area that they could. She excelled in engineering, but her primary passions were government and history. She loved to learn about how the system worked and how the histories of various countries brought them to what they were in the present.
Her parents were hard workers, but with five girls to put through private school and to save for college, she knew that it was a strain on her parents that she didn't want them to keep dealing with. So instead of going straight to college, she joined the Marines and became a communications officer. What she didn't expect was that it would become more than just a way for her to save up money for college. There was a lot of pride that she took in her work and in knowing that what she did was important and integral to the operations of the military. Teresa ended up staying in the Marines for ten years, working her way up through the ranks until she became a communications chief. But after ten years, her mother fell ill and she took family leave time in order to help take care of her as her father had already passed two years before. It was spending the time with her mother, away from the Marines, that brought the realization that she while she was proud of her job, she wasn't satisfied in it anymore. She did not feel fulfilled or engaged as she once did or as she had been when she was in school.
So she left the Marines, having already used online schooling to gain a bachelors in political science and finally went to college (grad school) as she had always dreamed, at the age of 29, and to get a masters in Political Science and a bachelors in Foreign Relations. Then she used the connections she'd made in the military to get her an interview with the State Department and got a job as a Foreign Service Officer (aka Diplomat). They originally tried to encourage her to go in as an FSO with specialization in communications, but she hadn't spent years getting her degree and putting in the work to go back to what was basically the same job she'd had in the military.
She met her husband, Chi-hun, while working abroad in South Korea, has two children: a girl, June, who is 8 and a boy, Giovanni, who is 5.
With nearly ten years as a diplomat under her belt, military experience, and some overlapping with the CIA during both her years in the Marines and as an FSO, Teresa was tapped to be the liaison for Aegis Force as they knew she wouldn't take any bullshit and would also have the skill and diplomacy not to ruffle feathers unnecessarily and know how to present the Aegis actions and involvement on the public relations' side of things. She has the skill and experience to also pay close attention to anything and everything going on around the Aegis HQ, to recognize situations that would seem out of place, as not everyone trusts the Aegis Force's intentions, even though they've done a lot of good in the community and for the imPort reputations as a whole. She may be giving them intelligence from the government, and spinning that information and the Aegis mission for the public, but she is also monitoring them in return.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Lauren Vélez
EXTRA DETAILS: Teresa has a very diplomatic, charming, and outwardly disarming demeanor for the public. She portrays herself in a calm, engaged, and unassuming way because she finds that perception leaves people more at ease with her and makes them more likely to say things they normally wouldn't. But beyond that she can be a smiling balls-buster. She can smell bullshit from a mile away and knows how to twist things to make people see and think what she wants them to. That is how she got the moniker "The Iceberg" while working for the State Department because she looks simple and unthreatening on the surface, but anyone who gets too close or doubts her authority will find themselves seeing the real danger soon enough. She visits the command centre for Aegis Force daily, is always early and stays late as needed. She speaks five languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Korean. Always takes her children's birthdays off of work to spend with them and takes a one week vacation in the summer for the family.
MAINTENANCE: like the Admin, but in charge of keeping the physical base and its assets running, including vehicles.
NAME: Hector Coburn
AGE: 57
BACKGROUND: Hector owned a mechanic shop in Maurtia Falls for thirty years. Supporting his family of a wife and six kids, he also worked nights as a janitor at the local community college. When the time came for his son to take over running the family business, Hector decided he wasn't quite ready for retirement and decided to give working with imPorts a try.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Scruffy the janitor from Futurama
EXTRA DETAILS: Hector's one of those guy's who's soft spoken until the moment he lets out a choice piece of wisdom or a pun that'll guarantee a groan from everyone in the room.
MEDICAL: Works in the infirmary. For when someone wants to get their character patched up off-screen after a mission and there are no healers available to arrange something with.
NAME: Johnathan Eun
AGE: 28
BACKGROUND: Johnathan graduated from Nonah University with a Doctorate in Bio-Medical Sciences. He's arrogant, brilliant, and often times trying to work with, however, his track record with his research and utilizing the latest technology speaks volumes to his ability. He's forward thinking in how he can assist the native and imPort heroes as researching their biology is a very narrow field to be involved in. After an unfortunate accident with a close friend in Maurtia Falls, he dedicated his life to unraveling how the human body works, especially for those with super powers. He is currently working on a new research project trying to learn how the nanite technology works for the imPort heroes and how it could be applied to the native population.
He reached out to Aegis. As much as he's stubborn, he wants to do good and improve relations between the native and imPort heroes. Coming together to better serve the public is one of his ultimate goals in life.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Han Hyu-Min
EXTRA DETAILS: He's first, and foremost, a doctor, so he's often found in a long lab coat and scrubs. Johnathan is often reaching new medical research journals as a hobby, and despite his often terrible personality, his bedside manner is impeccable. He's also very good with children (he'll deny it) and had a long-distance relationship with a young woman that he refuses to discuss.
SECURITY: full-time armed sentry who welcomes and processes visitors and stands alert for signs of intrusion, espionage, or other mischief. Usually stationed at the front entrance.
NAME: August Park
AGE: 36
BACKGROUND: Born and raised in De Chima, August grew up with stories of the imPort and native heroes who helped restore justice and freedom to the United States. It was their example that inspired him to join the military right out of high school. Park had a solid but uneventful career in the Army infantry, mainly stationed in Europe, but ended up seeing action in imPort-related crises during the war with the Soviets in 2016 and the clone crisis of 2017 (see the History page for more context), both times defending his hometown of De Chima. This firsthand experience with imPort drama is what drew August to transfer to Aegis from the regular military, wanting to personally involve himself in threats to safety closer to home than far-flung military bases.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Lee Joon-Gi
EXTRA DETAILS: August wears a suit and tie while greeting and processing visitors at the entrance to Aegis HQ, projecting a smiling and welcoming face for the public. But his vigilance never wavers, and beneath that suit is a handgun, taser, cuffs, and protective vest. August is reserved and professional with most Aegis members, but if prompted to open up he will hold forth about his family (his husband and adopted daughter have moved to Maurtia Falls for his new job, and it's been tough for them leaving De Chima) and hobbies (he knows his pottery is not very good, but he's getting better all the time, and the process of shaping clay helps him to relax).
TRAINEE: an NPC metahuman seeking guidance and teaching from Aegis to control their powers.
NAME: Laura Crews
AGE: 16
BACKGROUND: Laura was thrilled when her metahuman fire-breathing powers manifested in 2016 (see: the Extremis crisis), until a fateful burp set her parents' home on fire. No one was seriously injured, but it was still a traumatic event for a young child, and Laura has been fearful and ashamed of her powers ever since, which has affected her schooling, socialization, and emotional health. It was her idea to approach Aegis Force for help learning how to control her abilities and use them productively, and she has aspirations to re-invent herself as a hero, instead of the freakish failure she currently perceives herself to be.
DESCRIPTION/APPEARANCE: Sadie Sinks
EXTRA DETAILS: She's at Aegis HQ for training at least once a week after school. She lives with her parents in a small apartment close by in Maurtia Falls, which makes it easier to fit this extracurricular into her schedule. She has few friends at school (burning down your house isn't great for your reputation) and is sometimes targeted by local punks who either fear her or see her power as a potential asset if they can lure her into crime. Her dating life is a disaster even by 16-year-old standards.
She thinks imPorts and Aegis are extremely cool and tries hard to impress team members, but struggles to adapt to the disciplined, regimented atmosphere around the base. Like many in Maurtia Falls, she often views official rules as suggestions or obstacles rather than guidelines, but has her heart in the right place and gives her best in training. Even if she sometimes has to be stopped from live-streaming or live-bweeting her every visit to Aegis HQ in ways not conducive to security.
ADMIN: basically the God of the Base, who keeps everything running behind the scenes with regards to appointments, payroll, scheduling, and more. Works at the front desk in the lobby.
