[The image of Atropos' vast cosmic maw suddenly flashes before his eyes, looming over his mind. He shuts his eyes for a second, then reopens them and forces himself to focus on Lucina.]

[she doesn't want to talk about this. she may have started the talk in this direction, but she definitely wants no more of it. she's not here to be sad!! she has PURPOSE.

she straightens, looking back up.]

Regardless. Nothing changes unless we try. It's why we're here, right?

Pretty sure we're all here because the Porter was bored.

[He smiles wryly, without joy to it.]

But, sure. Trying is a good way to spend the time we've got. So that's what we do- we give a shit. Even when it doesn't seem to count for much.

You...don't think it does? This work of yours? [her expression struggles to settle on either worry or displeasure while her stomach knots.

before he can answer, she shakes her head:] You don't-- [she huffs.] Forgive me. For being already..."in your face" as it were. I should be asking how you are instead. After all, I...I don't know. How you are.

[Jacob is silently grateful that she saved him from answering. He's not sure what he would say, right now.]

Honest answer? I feel like I just got scraped off the floor. Still trying to make sense of what happened.

You don't have to rush into it, you know. [she doesn't really want to recount finding him, either!] Fortunately, the situation at-large isn't as dire as before. You can breathe a bit easier, I'd think.

[He scowls for a moment.]

We might not be in a living nightmare right now, but that won't last. All the more reason to use this time to get ready as we can be for the next thing. And the thing after that.

[it stings to hear that from him. she fidgets uncomfortably for a moment, looking elsewhere, her face a little pink.

pretty weird hearing your own logic talking back at you from someone you care about, huh, Lucina?]

E-even so...we're all here. We--we're strong enough. To do a little more while you get your bearings again.

[Well, now Jacob feels bad. He takes a step back and smiles softly.]

Yeah. You're all here, and you're all strong as hell. I'll remember that.

[fauxmarth]

[her mouth quirks a little.]

You, ah...you missed another change. A good one, though. [she glances down at her hands.] I'll be able to do more now. Bigger things.

[Jacob reaches out gingerly, squeezes one of her biceps.]

I thought I felt something different. Your powers evolved, didn't they?

[fauxmarth]

[she laughs a little, fidgeting at that.]

Yes, well, it was very strange? Darin was helping me modify Falchion's hilt -- rebalance it to suit me. And just as he was talking me over the changes, I...I apparently left? [she squints.] He says it was for two days, and it must've been, because others noted I disappeared, too. But I don't recall it at all. [she shakes her head, pausing just a moment.]

I returned to the same spot I was, and suddenly...[she trails off, bobbing her head thoughtfully.

then, with a sheepish smile and a shrug:] Well, now I have a strength to rival Darin's? I accidentally punched him through a few walls when we tested it.

Through walls? Nice. That's definitely going to come in handy.

[Jacob smiles, then looks concerned.]

Hold on. These walls weren't in Helix, were they?

[fauxmarth]

[quickly, with her hands up:] No, no! Not at all! It was--it was at Darin's workshop, actually. And... [while her hands go down, wincing a bit:] And the building next to it...

I, I offered to pay for repairs.

[darkpants_warmfeeling]

The next building? Damn it, Lucina.

[Jacob facepalms for a moment, then sighs.]

That can't be a light bill. Need any help? Aegis' budget has something set aside for reconstruction.

[fauxmarth]

[she grimaces.] If you did that, then the event would be seen as Aegis-related...!

[Shrugging!]

Well, since it's already involving two Aegis agents...

[she hangs her head.]

That...yes. That would...help me out a lot, actually...yes, sir. I won't let it happen again.

[Jacob puts a comforting hand on her shoulder.]

Don't worry about it. We'll just keep those new muscles of yours pointed in the right direction from now on.
